Chisinau, March 13, 2012
Kaarina Immonen, United Nations Resident Coordinator, and Iurie Leanca, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, briefed media about two decades of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations in a press conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Moldova’s membership in the UN (March 2, 1992).

We have worked closely with our national partners to ensure a better life for the Moldovan people and help the country fulfil its development goals. Our assistance has expanded over years to cover a wide range of activities – from electoral support, empowering women, health and education services to addressing the consequences of natural disasters, creating partnerships with the private sector, and promoting justice and human rights for everyone in Moldova. The UN has a key role in helping Moldova deliver on its ambitions towards European integration”, said Kaarina Immonen.

Iurie Leanca, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, thanked the UN for its continuous support to the country’s development agenda, highlighting the new UN-Moldova Partnership Framework which envisages doubling UN’s support during 2013-2017 up to $ 200 million for areas pertaining to democratic governance, justice and human rights, equitable human development and social inclusion, and environment.

On this occasion, the publication „Republic of Moldova: Two Decades in the Large United Nations Family”, developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, with UN’s support was presented.
