Students-journalists from ULIM trained by EUBAM experts

Recently, European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) has organized a lecture on: EU and EUBAM.

The lecture took place within the Free International University of Moldova and it was mainly for the students of journalism faculty. The main object of the project is to inform young people on those 6 basic values of the Mission, which are: neutrality, partnership, trust, result, service and transparency.
In his speech, Mr. Ronald Goggin, EUBAM Communication Officer, listed a number of illegal cross border activities, including human trafficking, smuggling and other illicit commercial activities that are taking place along the 1222 km of Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
After the presentation of EUBAM principles, Mr. Ronald Goggin invited future journalist to collaboration through media coverage of the problems faced by Moldovan Republic and Ukraine at the common border.
He even suggested to the students to participate in a contest held in April. Contest participants will write a journalistic material about the cross border activities and the winners will go in a European Union country for experience change.
The lectures will continue until March 2012, and the following topics are: “Ethics in journalism, freedom of expression and free press”; “Citizen Journalism: blogging, social networks, Internet”; “Case study: techniques and methods used in solving controversial problems”.
