Workshop on strengthening standards for asylum procedure

On 18 August, 2011, within the Bureau of Migration and Asylum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was held the workshop entitled: Strengthening the standards of the asylum procedure in Republic of Moldova.

The event was attended by the employees of the Refugees Directorate of BMA, representative of the juridical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and by Mr. Octavian Mohorea, legal Counselor of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Republic of Moldova (UNHCR).

During the meeting were discussed many issues about the organizational structure of the Bureau of Migration and Asylum and about the procedure of determination of the refugee status, including the new model of decision on the asylum application, interview, application – questionnaire and report on information from the origin country.

Thus, the expert of the juridical Department of MIA and juridical counselor of UNHCR submitted some recommendations to improve organizational structures of this sub division and takeover the experience and used practice by the UNHCR in the procedure of determination the refugee status.

Also during the discussion about the structure of the documents used in the procedure of offering asylum, was highly appreciated the report model on the information from the origin country, which was proposed to be annexed to the decision of the refugees Directorate of BMA to be accessible to the law courts.

The workshop participants highly appreciated the progress recorded by the Bureau of Migration and Asylum, into adjusting to the European standards of the procedure of offering asylum.
