On 25 October, current, NGO Law Center of Advocates (LCA) in collaboration with the Migration and Asylum Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Moldova organized a Round Table with the topic: STATELESSNESS: INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL LEGAL ASPECTS.
In his opening speech Mr. Alexei BARBĂNEAGRĂ, President LCA, has drawn attention on the actuality of the topic discussed and the necessity to promote and to adopt a national law on statelessness in accordance with the international practice.
Among other things, communicates and discussions within the Round Table focused on issues that concern the international legal framework on statelessness; various aspects on coordination of policy in the field of statelessness at national and European level; normative-legal basis of the statelessness etc.
About the necessity of unification and systematization of the multiple informational sources and creating a national database on the stateless number, including persons applying for this statute spoke Mr. Marin ROMAN, UNHCR Programs Associate. Lack of a database on the number of stateless persons and stateless statute seekers, leaves room for different interpretations on the respect of the rights of this category of people – said Mr. Roman.
Mrs. Ludmila Ispravnic, representative of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (MITC) presented a comprehensive communicate on the Procedure of recognition of stateless in Moldova in the MITC and tasks of the Migration and Asylum Bureau.
The Round Table ended with discussions and suggestions on statelessness field, supported by the civil society representatives – Charity Center for Refugees, Ave Children, Society for Refugees and representatives of the international and governmental structures – UNHCR, BMA, Refugees Department and MITC.
